Expanders, Space Maintainers and Mouthguards
Palatal Expander: An orthopedic appliance designed to widen your upper jaw so that the bottom teeth and jaw fit properly with the upper teeth, which will improve your bite.
Lower Lingual Holding Arch and Nance Holding Arch (Space Maintainers): Permanent retainers used to hold the space after a primary tooth was lost early, which prevents the permanent molars from shifting forward and crowding.
Mouthguards: Mouthguards can help protect your teeth, lips, gums and jaws from traumatic injury. We highly recommend our patients wear a mouthguard during contact sports and we make them for you! Click Here to read Dr. Karen Conn’s CONNmunications Blog post on the importance of mouthguards.
All of our retainers are customized to keep your teeth straight and make sure your smile lasts a lifetime. We may recommend one of the following:
- Essix Retainer: A clear retainer (similar to a clear aligner)
- Hawley Retainer: An acrylic retainer made in a variety of fun colors
- Bonded Retainer: A wire we place on the backside of the front teeth
When absolutely necessary, we partner with the area’s most accomplished oral surgeons to correct jaw abnormalities in adult patients. Surgery can improve your ability to chew, speak and breathe, while also delivering tremendous facial transformations. This type of collaborative treatment is only recommended after discussion with you and careful analysis of your x-rays, 3D study models and photographs.
